earrings and Suspect was wrongly shot

The attorney for a man sheriff deputies shot following a three-county chase in August said Monday his client was trying to surrender to deputies when he was shot.

Attorney Robert Kehoe said Scott

Sprague had nothing in his hand and never made an aggressive move toward officers who surrounded him with their guns drawn after he crashed his van Aug. 23 after a chase. The chase began in Allen County with an attempted traffic stop and ended in Hancock County when Sprague crashed the van.

Kehoe showed the tape Monday playing the shooting scene over numerous times while narrating what he saw. After crashing his van, at least six deputies surround the van and then backed off.

Sprague could not open the van because the driver’s door was smashed so he climb out the window, Kehoe said.

In the video, Sprague is seen sticking one hand into the air as he hung out the window with the other hand grasping the door frame. Kehoe said that was to show officers he was unarmed.

As Sprague continued to climb out, he takes that hand and grabs the door frame to aid himself in climbing out. Holding onto the van, earrings, he jumps off the door frame landing on the ground as he turns to raise his hands, which is when two deputies, Sgt. Jerry Morris of Allen County and Deputy Mark Brecht of Putnam County, fired a total of eight shots.

Kehoe said there was no reason to shoot Sprague.

"He was getting out of the car. That’s all," Kehoe said. "As soon as his feet hit the ground he’s shot."

The internal investigation said Sprague "suddenly exited the vehicle with a silver metal object in his hand, rapidly approached the deputies at the scene and pointed the object at the deputies in a menacing fashion as one would point a handgun."

Kehoe said that statement is wrong and the video, that is out there for anyone to watch, proves it.

"I have gone over and over this. I don’t see any pointing. He has his back to them," Kehoe said.

An internal investigation handled by the Erie and Marion county sheriffs’ offices found both officers involved in the shooting did not violate any departmental policies or procedures.

"Here’s my beef. These people who did this investigation did not base their investigation on the evidence. Had they done so they would not have cleared these guys. Someone lied to them or they did not review all the information," Kehoe said.

After the shooting, in a segment of the video prosecutors did not allow the news media to view when they released part of the video, Kehoe said one of the officers involved in the shooting,Tiffany Sets, Brecht, christmas jewelry, can be heard talking nervously.

"I fired because he had something in his hand. I don’t know what it was. I thought it was a weapon," Brecht said.

Kehoe said Brecht was unsure whether Sprague had something in his hand and should not have fired. Brecht goes on to say he shot from behind a tree and believes he fired three shots.

Kehoe further criticized Brecht saying the deputy was behind cover and did not need to shoot.

Brecht asked another deputy if Sprague had pliers in his hand. Brecht then said Sprague said he had a gun.

"Well, he came out with shiny things in his hand, pointed. Hell, I’m behind the tree and he’s bum rushing out the window at me. I’m going home tonight," Brecht said.

Brecht asked another officer about a gun.

"He said he had a gun? Did he tell you that one?" the man asked.

A male voice responded, "He said he had a gun."

Kehoe said there is no way any officer heard Sprague say he had a gun. Sprague did not have a gun, never said that and numerous sirens in the background were too loud to hear anything.

Kehoe said there was no gun found and nothing in Sprague’s hands.

Kehoe said the officer he believes is Brecht was trying to get his story together and his words show he was searching for excuses.

"He didn’t know at the time he shot whether this guy had pliers, whether he had a gun or anything in his hand. He just fired," Kehoe said.

Just assuming someone has a weapon without seeing it is no reason to shoot, silver bracelets, Kehoe said. He said that was a clear violation of departmental policy by both deputies.

Kehoe blamed police and sheriff deputies for the shooting saying their negligence created it by first ramping up their adrenalin by telling all officers Sprague may have a gun because he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon 16 years earlier. That weapon, Kehoe said, was not used in any crime, it only was on Sprague’s body.

"These guys are hyped up," Kehoe said.

Sprague has been charged in Allen County with felony failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. A grand jury is meeting this week to decide whether the two officers broke any laws.

Maximizing the Value Of the Idaho Properties Mr. Lazarovici’s principal focus for Applied Minerals will be to assist the Company in evaluating alternatives for the Company’s non-core properties located in northern Idaho’s historic Coeur d’Alene district – "Silver Valley," the world’s second largest silver district, having produced over 1.2billion ounces from 1884-2009. The largest such property is the Atlas Mine. The property was partially explored by Noranda from 1975-1977. It was determined that the mineralized zones identified from their drilling was not deemed economic to mine with silver prices then averaging $4.60/ounce. In 1981, with silver prices as high as $16/ounce, Atlas entered into an exploration agreement with neighboring Hecla Mining, the largest silver producer in the region. Under the agreement, a commitment of $1.3 million was made for furthering exploration in exchange for a 60/40 Hecla/Atlas net smelter split. In 1985,christmas pendant, with silver prices plummeting to an average $6.14/ounce and failure to identify an ore body economically feasible to mine, the agreement was terminated and further development was cancelled. For the following 20 years, silver prices ranged from $3.93 – $7.32/ounce which was too low to justify further exploration expense.

The Atlas Mine is located on the east end of the Coeur d’Alene Mining District in Shoshone County. The property lies just south of the Osburn Fault directly adjacent to Hecla Mining’s Lucky Friday Silver Mine and is accessible by interstate freeway and a county-maintained road. The Atlas property is surrounded by claims staked by Sterling Mining Co., under current ownership of billionaire investor, Thomas Kaplan’s Silver Opportunity Partners. The surrounding claims are believed to have been staked as a result of geophysical exploration findings. The Mine has over 7,000 feet of tunnels, fully preserved core shed, a rail system and a 2,earrings,000-foot internal shaft that can be used as an access for future exploration.

Woman accused in Bi-Mart pharmacy robberies

After a Vancouver pain clinic lost the ability to prescribe painkillers, Larae Corzine a year ago said her family was in dire straits.

Her husband, Steve, was a longtime patient at the Payette Clinic, money clips, which forfeited its rights to prescribe opioids last year after federal agents linked the clinic to the overdose death of an Oregon teen.

Corzine told a newspaper reporter in April 2009 that other doctors in town wouldn’t see her husband, who she said suffers from reflex sympathetic dystrophy, earrings, because they were afraid he was addicted to Oxycontin. She said her husband was in pain, was not an addict, and needed help.

"The pain is 10 times worse than it’s ever been," Corzine told The Columbian last year. "He’s vomiting and shaking. I’m surprised he hasn’t gone into seizures."

Now, the distressed wife is behind bars and charged with three Vancouver pharmacy robberies and an attempted robbery on a fourth occasion. The alleged drug of choice: Oxycontin.

The 39-year-old Vancouver woman was arraigned Thursday on the most recently filed charge of first-degree attempted robbery relating to a June 18 holdup attempt at the Vancouver Clinic pharmacy, 501 S.E. 172nd Ave.

Corzine also is charged with three counts of first-degree robbery relating to the April 20, June 14 and June 18 holdups of the Bi-Mart pharmacy, 11912 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd.

She is being held in the Clark County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail.

Trial has been set for Oct. 18.

Corzine was first arrested after the June 18 Bi-Mart robbery when a suspect sped away from police in a green Ford Taurus and crashed into an SUV at Northeast 63rd Street and 58th Avenue. In the collision, both cars were knocked off the road and the Taurus caught fire, deputies said.

After taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center and later jailed, bangles, investigators allegedly linked Corzine to the other robberies through surveillance video and witness identifications, according to court documents.

In each robbery, watches, the bandit had a black gun tucked in her front waistband and made threatening requests for Oxycontin. In the Vancouver Clinic Pharmacy holdup,Beads necklace, the robber said, "Give me Oxycontin 80 (mg) — I have a gun," according to court documents. She then counted down from 10.

Two pharmacy clerks escaped into an office, called 911 and the robber fled.

Corzine’s case isn’t the first evidence of fallout from the Payette Clinic. Of the 800 former patients, the Drug Enforcement Administration estimated that half were physically dependent on narcotics. The clinic remains open under a new name, Walnut Grove Medical and Mental Health Clinic.

In September 2009, another former Payette patient, Harold Andres Jr., was sentenced to four years and seven months in prison after pleading guilty to three Safeway pharmacy robberies earlier that year for oxycodone.

Marriotts Ridge hands Centennial first-ever loss

Like all good things, the string of consecutive victories for Centennial’s girls was eventually going to come to an end.

Marriotts Ridge’s Jenna Albright is just happy she was around to be a part of it.

Albright tied a career high with 25 points to lead her team to a 60-42 win Thursday at Hobbits Glen over a Centennial team that had won 23 straight regular season matches dating back to when girls golf began in 2008.

"Being a senior, my last year, I knew this was my last chance to beat them and it’s definitely been a goal of mine, earrings," said Albright. "They are a great team, so it feels great to finally do it."

Albright got plenty of help, as Rachel Lee fired 21 points, Marissa Davey had 11 and Ariel Biegel chipped in with 3. Alex McShane (17 points), Jessica Mehta (13) and Michelle Kuan (12) accounted for the Eagles’ scoring.

"Our first two are really setting the tone for us, with Jenna serving as a great leader and Rachel playing really well beside her as a freshman, necklaces," Marriotts Ridge coach Mark Dubbs said. "Really all the girls right now are pushing each other in practices and in matches and it’s showing in our scores."

Albright got things going right away with a birdie on the par 5 first hole and never really slowed down. She finished with three bogies and five pars the rest of the way.

"Of course I was a little nervous at the beginning, being the most important match of the season for us," Albright said. "But I knew after that first hole I was going to be fine. My putting really helped me out … I think I made like four one-putts when I really needed them."

Lee finished her round strong with three pars over her final four holes, which helped extend the Mustangs’ lead. Through the first five holes,Beads necklace, Marriotts Ridge only led by three points.
